Contact:

World Cleanup 2012

Mrs. Tiina Urm

Communications & PR

GSM: +372 5300 0515

e-mail: tiina@letsdoitworld.org

www.letsdoitworld.org

Local Contact:
CleaNap| Piazza Pulita

Mrs. Emiliana Mellone

National Communications & PR

GSM: +39 380710 16 12

Mrs Roberta Striano
International Communication & PR
GSM: +39 348893 93 80

e-mail: cleanap.letsdoit@gmail.com
www.cleanap.wordpress.com

We receive and distribute the press release of CleaNap and we invite everyone to read it carefully.

CleaNap for Let’s do it world 2012 – From Naples to the rest of the World

CleaNap is an independent movement of active citizens. Our name CLEANAP [‘kliInȜp] is a crasis and it comes out from the verb to Clean and our town’s name: NAP(oli). Our movement is young, but full of great satisfactions: since 11th June 2011, we have been promoting our “socially advantageous performances” and we have been receiving much attention from the Italian and foreign media. Our actions, spread by social networks such as FaceBook and Twitter, give every citizen the chance to be a “doer” of the change. Everybody can take part to it, just coming in the right place at the right our bringing a broom, a dustpan or a pair of gloves, contributing this way to regain an area of our own town.

CleaNap is the Italian partner of Let’s do it! for the World Cleanup 2012. Volunteer groups and organizations from different countries are initiating a global action called World Cleanup 2012, with the aim of cleaning up illegal garbage in 100 countries and raising people’s awareness worldwide. ”This is not just about the nature-lovers, it’s about everyone waking up to the reality that the garbage is the largest mistreated resource in the world,” states one of the action initiators, techentrepreneur Rainer Nolvak.

World Cleanup 2012 will consist of separate one-day cleanup actions, carried out country-wide or city-wide in participating countries between 24th of March 2012 and 25th of September 2012. Right now there are teams already gearing up in almost 60 countries all over the World: Afghanistan, Albania, Austria, Bangladesh, Barbados, Benin, Brazil, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Chile, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Estonia, Finland, France, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Croatia, Cyprus, India (New Delhi, Hyderabad, Lucknow , Patna), Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Lithuania, Liberia, Latvia, Macedonia, Moldova, Morocco, Nepal, Netherlands, Nigeria, Niger, Portugal, Romania, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Senegal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Thailand, Tanzania, Togo, Turkey, Uganda, Ukraine, United Kingdom, USA (San Francisco) and Russia.

For the World cleanup 2012, CleaNap has a very ambitious project: we want to clean up the Mount Vesuvius National Park! But if you leave us alone, we cannot do that much, that’s why we need institutions, citizens and professionals! CleaNap was born on the net, we arrange our actions online and then we meet in the streets, but NOW we need passionate partners who can help us to spread our project in order to get more and more public echo, hence more potential adhesions. We deeply need privates and

professionals to help us with their knowledge and abilities. We need help to organize the action and its logistics. We need people, many people who want to join us from all over Italy (and all over the world!) to clean up a place which is a symbol for the whole Italian country.

The park has unfortunately become also a symbol of the terrible connection of legal/illegal garbage dumping; in a protected wild area there have been thrown tons and tons of waste: littering, bulky goods, electronic garbage, toxic rubbish (asbestos and toxic mud), and there is even a huge legal dump.

A great environment reclamation should be done, because we do not want to accept that one of the most beautiful natural places of the Earth, one of the candidates to the New 7 Wonders of Nature, could be in such a terrible slump. According to the people who will support our action, we could be more and more effective to regain our Mount Vesuvius: not only the cleaning up of the “easy” littering then, but a well-framed intervention for our volcano if institutions and professionals will help us. We need everybody’s enthusiasm and competence! The idea for the action grew from the Let’s Do It! civic movement that started in 2008 in a small Baltic country of Estonia, when on 3rd of May 50 000 people came out and picked up 10 000 tons of waste in 5 hours, cleaning up the whole territory of the country. The video report on the action went

viral and now the one-day cleanup model has been replicated in 15 more countries with staggering results – altogether 2,4 million participants and from 4% to 14,7% (of the whole population) participation rate per country.

“We have been implementing the simple and very practical Let’s Do It! philosophy through those actions – don’t blame someone, instead just figure out how you can make things better and invite everyone to join you,” points out Nolvak. For next year the initiators are aiming to unite the volunteers’ efforts in at least 100 countries – thus

there is room for many more to join in. These actions that have been successfully carried out by dedicated people, volunteers from very different backgrounds, prove that we all can make a difference.

Now is a good time to jump on board. World that is free of waste is possible. The team of World Cleanup 2012 invites all the people and countries who wish to be a part of these Olympic games for the clean world – join us!

Read more and see how you can support and join the action: www.cleanap.wordpress.com, www.facebook.com/CLEANAP and www.letsdoitworld.org .

Contact:

World Cleanup 2012

Mrs. Tiina Urm

Communications & PR

GSM: +372 5300 0515

e-mail: tiina@letsdoitworld.org

www.letsdoitworld.org

Local Contact:
CleaNap| Piazza Pulita

Mrs. Emiliana Mellone

National Communications & PR

GSM: +39 380710 16 12

Mrs Roberta Striano
International Communication & PR
GSM: +39 348893 93 80

e-mail: cleanap.letsdoit@gmail.com
www.cleanap.wordpress.com

CleaNap is an independent movement of active citizens.
